They are the ways our body and mind learned to stay safe through shutting down, overreacting, fawning, or numbing when things once felt too much.

But not everything we feel today is a trauma response.
Sometimes life is just challenging. Discomfort, stress, frustration, or sadness are part of being human, not always signs that something is wrong.

A trauma response pulls you into survival where your body feels unsafe, reactive, or out of control.

A regulated response allows you to stay present, breathe, and move through the emotion.

Being able to tell the difference is what builds emotional maturity.

A 2023 BMJ meta-analysis reviewed over 1,000 clinical trials involving 128,000 participants and found that exercise is as effective as, and in some cases more effective than, antidepressant medication for treating depression.

Exercise regulates serotonin and dopamine, lowers cortisol, reduces inflammation, and restores the physiological connection between body and mind that depression disrupts.

It promotes neuroplasticity, stabilises mood chemistry, and improves overall functioning.

Medication can be essential for some individuals, especially when symptoms are severe or debilitating.
